FAQ
- How is percentage increase calculated?
- Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100. So going from 100 to 150 is 50 divided by 100, which is a 50 percent increase.
- What if the value went down?
- The result is negative, which is a percentage decrease. Going from 80 to 60 shows negative 25 percent.
- Why can the starting value not be zero?
- Percentage change is measured against the starting value, and dividing by zero has no meaning, so a nonzero starting value is required.
